That 3xciting time of the year!

Welcome back to Lou-Cyo’s reaction to E3, 2015 Edition!  It took me some time to organize myself and all of the, may I say, FUCKING AWESOME gaming experiences my visual and auditory senses were exposed to.  We have a lot of ground to cover, so let’s begin.  Shall we?

Shawn Layden, President and CEO at Sony Computer Entertainment America

Shawn Layden, President and CEO at Sony Computer Entertainment America, began the “already known” speech of how powerful the PlayStation 4’s engine and graphics are.  He knows it.  We know it.  Millions know it.  So what was exactly new about the PS4 this time around especially since the noticeable lack luster of game releases at its launch?

The first one I NEED to mention is Final Fantasy VII: Remake.  I wrote about is before here. So GET INTO IT!  After, you may keep reading.

Game related hardware, Morpheus, made a debut at E3.  Andrew House, current president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, baptized the hardware as the PS4’s virtual reality experience.  Morpheus is expected to be able to connect friends and family to the same virtual reality world for a shared experience.  Nonetheless, VR technology is far from what movies have shown us it should be – even for Sony.  One of the main reasons is the lack of optic professionals needed to work the science behind the VR experience (read more in detail about the obstacles the virtual world gaming currently faces in one of my previous posts here).

Sony-Morpheus-

Co-founder and Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, and Vice President for Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst, introduced a new franchise to the system: Horizon, Zero Dawn.

Hermen Hulst, image from pressfire.no

Horizon takes place in the post-apocalyptic world where humans have retrogressed to Neanderthal times and are at war with machines.  Think of it of a Jurassic Park accident taking place all over the world and the dinosaurs are immense machinery trying to end your life.  The graphics were beautiful and the detail is spectacular. One of the major points of this game is the lead female character.  She’s tough, looks rough, and is not wearing a skimpy outfit.  Again, mad points for letting the gals have their say in looking strong and knowing how to dress properly for battle.  The gaming world is still ruled by a shitload of dudes – (in Kanye’s VMAs 2015 voice) WHERE THE GIRLS AT, BRUH?!

image from moviepilot.com

One of the games, The Last Guardian, (to be released in 2016) was not really catching my attention.  I will not go into it, but I encourage you to check it out if you’re that curious.  Basically, you have a humongous flying dog who you apparently need to be calling to help you cross from point A to point B.  Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, was beaming with joy about it though.  However, I was over here thinking, ” Oh.  So…  A modern day Hey You, Pikachu.”  #NotSorry

I did enjoy the exploring aspect of No Man’s Sky presented by Managing Director at Hello Games, Sean Murray.  The game will feature a VASTLY MASSIVE number of planet and solar systems for your exploring content.  Alex Evan,Technical Director at Media Molecule, very excitingly presented Dreams.  It lets you legitimately create surreal worlds which other’s can explore and you control.  You can make them as whimsical, cool, or creepy as you want.  Think of it as the nicer and magical version of Minecraft.  If you’re into games that do not have a definite “end”, these are games you definitely want to get a hold of.  Quite impressive if I do say so myself.

Fire Watch was one of the games that caught my attention.  It starts off really “romantic cliché” between you (the forest lookout) and the sexy voice coming out of the walkie talkie, but the trailer gets intense really quick when you are told you’re the last person that might have seen 2 recently reported missing women and you’re informed someone is at your lookout post.  Since we’re discussing suspense, I have to give out a mention to Batman: Akrham Knights since it was full of death, skulls, psychosis, and so much “WHAT THE FUCK?” moments…  It was glorious and it was released in June this year so get a copy – fast.

Yup.  That’s the tower you were supposed to be at.  And yes, that is The Joker burning.

Adam Boyes,VP of Publisher & Developer Relations at PlayStation, and his quirky self shared the next update for Destiny and Assassin Creed: Syndicate.  I have yet to give Destiny a try, but promise to do it soon enough. The hype people give it is too much for me to not notice.  Let us not lose focus on Syndicate’s (to be released 10/2015) option to choose the main character to be FEMALE.  PS4’s on a roll breaking stereotypes!  Boyes almost killed me with cuteness when presenting World of Final Fantasy to be released in 2016.  It was like playing any Final Fantasy but no one looks scary and just plain adorable.  When you see it you will understand, I promise.  Plus, Boyes always makes you feel excited about anything he talks about.

Boyes didn’t leave the stage without a letting PS4 fans know about Shenmue III’s (created by Yu Suzuki) Kickstarter and last time I checked, Suzuki has raised over 6M.  How come Sony does not fund this game obviously being supported by so many is beyond my scope of comprehension.

Asad Qizilbash, Product Manager at Sony PlayStation, and Mark Lamia and David Vonderhaar from Treyarch, Bruce Straley, walked us through favorite titles like Hitman, Uncharted, Call of Duty: BlackOps and Street Fighter V which made an appearance at E3 and did not disappoint.  John Vignocchi from Disney Interactive made an appearance to discuss Star Wars additions to Disney’s Infinity and Patrick Bach from Dice introduced Star Wars Battlefront.

Though the games presented were indeed a combination of “hits and misses,” there is something the PS4 does not lack – graphic power.  All the games look beautiful and close to flawless.  The consoles ability to display such visual treats is indeed something to admire and give credit where it’s due.

I will cover the other E3 highlights soon, so stayed tuned!

See you around!

Green with NVIDIA!

A new challenger has arrived!  Please, welcome SHIELD!

Look at this sexy mo-fo!

The Titan Trifecta of gaming consoles (Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox) will soon have to face NVIDIA in battle.  The visual computing company will release the first considered world’s Android TV console: SHIELD.  No release date has been confirmed yet in the U.S.  However, I am awaiting anxiously to see how this console will prove itself in the gaming world market.  SHIELD will unleash the power of “supercomputer” technology in a cloud system (i.e., the GRID) letting the consumers not only stream the PC games, but also play Android games and watch high quality videos.  And with a 3GB memory I say that’s more than doable.  NVIDIA’s goals with SHIELD include to infuse PC quality graphics to games available for the system.  As if that is not impressive enough, SHIELD will hold the capability of diverse gameplay like supporting multiplayer options.

Look at that controller how sexy and sleek it is! -Drools.-

You’re probably asking yourself, “What games could possibly make me want to even consider buying this thing?”  Thankfully, I am here to answer that question!  Available on Google Play you will have access to Crysis 3, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Resident Evil 5, and Doom 3.  IF that is not good enough, the GRID will give graciously let you play Batman: Arkham Origins, Boderlands 2, and Ultra Street Fighter IV just to name a few.  And all this in a CLOUD?! A CLOUD!  Think about this for a second…  What is also a promising factor, which I have mentioned before in some of my entries, is that NVIDIA has listened to the gaming world inhabitants.  SHIELD was developed with feedback provided by gamers from all over for specifics like graphics, processing power, accessibility, and comfort when playing with controllers.  Hence, the slogan “Made To Game.”

What are your thoughts about SHIELD?  Is it here to stay?  Let me know on the comments below and don’t forget to Like and Share!  Until next time!

See you around!

#Progressive: Introducing the GayStation 4

As the social norms which dictate the real and tangible world are veering to a more progressive era, it is only natural the virtual world follows suit.  While Flipboarding the World Wide Web, I came across the following image and all I could do was smile and became obsessed with wanting to know all about it:

PS4 GayStation Edition

As unbelievable as it might seem to you for whatever reason, the GayStation is real – and it can be yours!  …but, for a price…

Sweden is currently celebrating Stockholm Pride 2014.  Apart from the fun, booze, and shenanigans people of all sexual orientations enjoy getting themselves into during these type of events, Prides all over the world also attempt to spread a sense of acceptance and unity – and Sweden is doing it right.  Promoted by the hashtag #thisisforthegaymers, a customized PlayStation 4 is being auctioned off during Stockholm Pride 2014 week (July 28th – August 2nd) to benefit the LGBT non-profit organization known as RFSL (The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights) which focuses on improving LGBT individuals’ quality of life by political lobbying, social exposure activities, and providing exceptional emotional support.

The auction will end on August 2nd, so you better get your wallets ready!  Oh, by the way before I forget: the current auction is 19,200 Swedish krona.  That’s roughly 2,790 US dollars.  I just finished checking the bids here.  Although I know it ain’t me buying it because I’m not about that “making it rain” life just yet…  It is for a nice cause: 100% of the monetary collections will be donated to RFSL.

The GayStation includes:

  • 500 GB PlayStation 4
  • DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller & charger
  • Four electives PlayStation 4 games (cannot be Collector’s Edition games)
  • Mono headset for voice chat
  • Power cord
  • HDMI Cable

IF by any chance the person who buys the GayStation reads this, let me know!  I would LOVE to hear about the experience.  Even if the latter doesn’t occur, I want to note it’s been refreshing to read the overall accepting responses from people all over the world.  Throughout my search of the GayStation, I have yet to read a demeaning comment or slur.  People are complimenting the design; wishing to have the moolah to purchase said console; and congratulating Sweden for such a move.  You may categorize my persona as banal, but I consider Sweden’s GayStation a rather phenomenal, marvelous, and fundamental stride towards a path of acceptance, love, and the shattering of malicious stereotypes which damage the fabric of society and evolution.

What are your thoughts on the GayStation?  Let me know in the comment box below!  See you around!

Addendum: The bid ended on stated date with a closing bid of 28300 Swedish Krona, which is about 4110 U.S. Dollars!  Congratulations to the GayStation’s owner: “Pumpkaboo!”

PSEpic

ps4 logo blue - playstation 4 logo

Epic.

That is the word Sony chooses to describe PlayStaion 4’s future.  Gamers all over the world have been teased by Sony in these past few months with statements such as “epic stuff” which “can’t wait for E3” would be announced in due time.  One of the most shocking reveals were the several tweets by Chicago born (woot!) actor, Todd Stashwick, who shamelessly posted a selfie where he’s wearing a sensor suit and picture of dummies on the floor accompanied by the hashtags #uncharted #ps4.  SONY YOU’RE KILLING US HERE!

Uncharted is one of the most recognized franchises by PlayStation, so certainly many where hyperventilating the millisecond their eyes devoured these:

stashwick2

stashwick3

If that didn’t catch your attention, watch the released trailer below.  The overwhelming emotions that will want to burst from your chest will take your breath away.

As I wrote about it in my previous trilogy posts titled Let the console war begin!, PlayStation 4 slaughtered the competition and stayed on top since the beginning.  Xbox One does snag the title of “Fasting Selling Console” and the Wii U experienced a surprising boast with the releases of Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zeld: A Link Between World.  Nonetheless, with over one million units sold in North America in the first 24 hours, PlayStation 4 holds the title of Top Selling Console and is clearly a beast not to be overlooked.

What are your thoughts on the PS4?  Do you think PlayStation 4 will be overthrown at any time before the next Console War begins?  Let me know!

See you around!

Sin & Concerts – Remastered!

I can officially geek out (even more) now: Sony announced Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 remastered versions for the PlayStation 3 will be available Winter 2013!  As I wrote in my previous article “What can I do for you?,” Sony will be releasing remastered versions of both games to give us a beautiful feast of graphic design.  As a major fan of FFX and FF X-2, I am extremely ecstatic to see what the PS3 technology will have in store for us aesthetically.  Not only I have utmost faith that the stunning graphics will make us cry, but I’m exceedingly excited for the new game content.  Yes, you read correctly: new game content.  Both releases will include features of the internationally game versions that weren’t available in the markets of North America. I don’t know about you, but I’m fucking thrilled – AAAAHHHH!  I can’t wait!

If you haven’t had the chance to explore the world of Spira alongside Yuna and Tidus, THIS is definitely the time to embark on such journey.  And if you have already traveled the Calm Lands years before, I say it wouldn’t be a bad idea to dust off that airship and revisit the beautifully remastered landscapes and cities.

I’ve done it! I-I have become a summoner!

I fight for Spira.

Defeating Sin, ending pain… this I can do.

I will not stand by and watch them be hurt.

Now, Sin is finally dead.

It all began when I saw this sphere of you.

I don’t want friends to die…or fade away.

Through the smiles, tears…

Everything is connected. I can feel it.

This is my story.

P.S. – Here’s a video to let you see the amazing remastering product we can expect.  See you around!

Let the console war begin! Part I

It’s here!

Yesterday was E3’s live streaming covering the PS4.  And, boy, what a show!  Sony’s presentation demonstrated why the PlayStation 4 has been proclaimed as “the most powerful console” out there.  Long story short, the PS4 ANNIHILATED Xbox One.  No questions about it.  I was going to review on the Xbox One before this post, but I’ll do it at a later time.  After yesterday’s demonstrations which included PS4 hardware, game play options, and price there is no way I wasn’t going to pay tribute to the PS4’s complete PWNAGE over Xbox One.  So with that, I summarized yesterday’s events into Three Amazing Facts explaining the how beautifully Sony’s PlayStation 4 murdered Microsoft’s Xbox One…  Let’s begin!

“The PlayStation 4 won’t impose any new restrictions on used games.” – Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America

Amazing fact #1: No Game Restrictions

Sony staff made it specifically clear that the PS4 will support used games with no difficulty.  That right there was a fatal blow to Microsoft.  Microsoft announced that once an Xbox One game was purchased, the physical copy of the disk served as a license to play the game. The Xbox One will register the game and no other console would be able to use that disk…  Unless they pay for it.  So basically, a “bye-bye” to sharing games with friends and family.  The old days were you could ask  someone for a game just to try it out are over in the Xbox universe.  What kinda fucked up shit is that?!  Thankfully, Sony made an instructional video to help Microsoft understand the “strenuous” process of sharing games.  Oh!  And let’s not forget about the Xbox One NEEDING to be connected to the internet at least once every 24 hours in order to allow gaming – horse shit.  I don’t know about you, but one of the last things I want to worry about is making sure my console is connected to the internet or I’ll be fucked and not be able to play.  No, thank you.  PS4 FTW.  Done.

PS4 listened to the fans and it will show on sales no doubt.  The news of no game restrictions was received with blissful faces and a booming applause from the audience.  On one of my previous entries, I mentioned how one of the PS4’s main cornerstones was to embrace and enhance connectivity between people – and with this decision the company has stayed true to its vision.  Much respect.

Amazing fact #2: Price

I’ll make it sweet and simple: $399.00.  That’s it.  Yes, taxes and all other add-ons will increase the price you will end up paying at the cash register.  However, you’ll get to own the most powerful console known to man by paying less than if you were to buy a 1st gen predecessor.  Fundamentally, you get a console with top notch technology, capacity to play used games, and it’s around $100.00 than it’s “competition…”  Do I need to elaborate more?  Yes!  I can and I will!

Image

Amazing Fact #3: Game Lineup

Since the PS4 started making it’s product known, Sony has used every second to impress its fans and newcomers alike with its uniqueness.  Microsoft, however, failed to do that.  During the Xbox One presentation, several of its “soon to be hits” games have PlayStation roots.  In what world did Microsoft thought that presenting a solid amount of games which have PlayStation-esque characteristics was such a phenomenal idea?  I have no idea what Microsoft is trying to achieve – it’s a freaking enigma.  On the other hand, Sony comes in strong with titles like Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Destiny.  All with a great fanbase.  All exclusive to the system.  Well fucking played, Sony.

Conclusion: Xbox One has died

With these 3 facts alone, the PlayStation 4 has proved that is will not disappoint – and it’s still not available in stores.  Sony has done an exceptional job not only delivering to gamers what they want, but also learning from the potentially fatal mistakes its competitors have made.  I’m not a PlayStation hardcore fan, but I can recognize an outstanding machine when I see one.  Let us welcome “the most powerful console!”

What are your thoughts on this console war?  Let me know!  See you around!

Blowing a cartridge in 2013?!

WHOAH!  Apparently Summer 2013 will be FULL of awesome new tech for us Gamers to indulge in.  While researching for new material for my blog, I came across various articles with the words “Super Retro Console.”

And here it is!

Say hello to Super Retro Trio!

Super Retro Console plays SNES, NES, Genesis, GBA photo

This little baby right here had me spasm!  Named “Super Retro Trio,” will hit vendors during the summer and will give Players the ability to play NES, SNES, Genesis, and GBA (with an adapter that’s sold separately) on just one console.  How awesome is that shit?!

One of the best parts?  The price.  According to various articles I read, the console will be a measly $69.99!  The adapter (needed to play GBA games) is only $39.99.  To add to the excitement, a few articles mentioned there will be a bundle pack including the console and adapter for $89.99!  If that didn’t catch your attention, apart from the fact that you’ll be able to play motherfucking CLASSICS, I don’t know what will.

Surprisingly enough, I discovered there are other consoles out there in the market that have more or less the same functionality as the SRT.  I was surprised I have never heard of these consoles before and that none of my Gamer friends ever told me about these wondrous inventions…  Assholes.  Anyhow, moving on…

Bottom line, I support these consoles on their entirety mainly because of the efficiency and cost.  Purchasing the SRT is a HUGE money saver –  especially for us who want to rebuild/enhance our gaming library.  For example, some of us always had that “friend” who we lend them a game and never got it back.  OR your console gets busted open while you were moving your few pieces of furniture into your new apartment.  So having to spend less that $100.00 to basically own 4 different consoles sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.  That spare moolah from not having to buy 4 different consoles can be use to buy Mario Bros., Super Mario RPG, and Pokémon LeafGreen.  Oh, the wonderful memories…  Although I have to say that if it was up to me, Genesis would’ve not made the cut – I would’ve replaced Genesis with N64.  Personally I believe N64 is one of the best consoles ever created and the game roster was just phenomenally epic.  No disrespect to Genesis, but: N64 > Genesis.  Especially after looking through this Pretty Awesome Timeline.

Lastly, the soon-to-happen launch of the SRT made me think about new upcoming consoles – especially the OUYA.  If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll remember I discussed the new Android powered console OUYA, which is schedule to also hit the stores during the summer.  I wonder how the OUYA will navigate the waters not only competing against the Titan Console Trio (Wii, PS4, and Xbox One), but also with this magical instrument that conglomerates a vast number of finest games ever made.  I guess we will have to wait and see.

What are your thoughts on the Super Retro Trio?  Do you think it’s worth it?

See you around!
